Georgia's Jim Crow carceral regime Produced women every day And all of the women were white Black women were subjects Of “the lowest order of humanity” “Limited in sentience” Associated with filth and masculinity And they could not combat the burden of guilt That guided all white juries When the color of their skin was the crime The protection of white women Let white manhood assert its authority By gendered racial terror As it scrubbed black women from history But the infrastructure of unfreedom Could not keep black women from reimagining society And their contestation of the meaning of modernity Was their most significant sabotage practice The girls wondered as they wandered In their own youthful way About the patterns of segregation that made It so that black blocks were ornamented with gas pumps And white blocks were decorated with roses The bars that held imprisoned black women in the first two decades of the 20th century remain So an abolitionist collectivity Must be maintained In the tradition of feminist blues incediarism Determined to shake If not torch Entire dungeons To change Destroy Rebuild
