I'd roll up, the sun creeps over the horizon Wiping the sleep out my eyes and then I'd make a little sandwich—egg, cheese, sausage What's on the agenda, the tees seem long I'm headin' on over to a golf cart Got a song playin' on headphones, wind in my face As I visit each tee box with a steady pace I'd move tee markers, front nine first I've done it so many times I knew the hole order I would go to To move 'em most efficiently I knew it so well, it was muscle memory Then I was back at the club house Now I'm hoppin' on the tee mower Hopin' it would start (But it didn't) I fiddled with it Finally, a solid 20 minutes go by I got the engine roarin', I rolled out the garage It was lopsided, though 'cause the one tire didn't hold air I'd limp over to the compressor to top it off for the day Next stop: gas tank, filled up full enough, I'd think Wasn't sure, the broken needle ain't tell me nothin', dang It's the crisp morning air that caressed my face When dew on the grass shimmered, life was made The sun rose, I swear just to warm the greens I cared for every part of it all 18 It's the cool morning breeze that brushed my face When ponds on the course shimmered, life was made The sun rose, makin' the fairways green I cared for every part of it all 18 Dare I say, the very best day My favorite was cuttin' them fairways straight Ventrac time, I gotta fill it up with diesel the old-school way What you knowin' 'bout a hand pump? Son, that was so archaic It worked, nonetheless, then the flagship fairway I'd go to next, hole one I'd cut It looked magnificent Then I had the whole day to roll around the course Mowin' down all the golfers Of course, I meant avoiding all the golfers (Haha) Mowin' down the grass one hole after another Headphones on blast, I was havin' a blast I had to cut the fairways fast though Before the dew evaporates After that the lines are so hard to see (Facts!) My stomach growlin' now, it's lunch time pal And I shuffled on back to the club house, yeah A hot dog was always on tap That or a pepperoni roll Either topped with the best chili ever made I got a bag of chips to go along side that Some days, I'd grab a Slim Jim Other days a Twix or a Kit Kat, hey It's the crisp morning air that caressed my face When dew on the grass shimmered, life was made The sun rose, I swear just to warm the greens I cared for every part of it all 18 It's the cool morning breeze that brushed my face When ponds on the course shimmered, life was made The sun rose, makin' the fairways green I cared for every part of it all 18 I remember when I started working that course It was high school summer, just weedeatin', sure With the occcasional chore like takin the trash To the dumpster and rakin' up sand traps galore I was pickin' braches up and sticks off of cart paths I was makin' trips to the burn pile, mad dash Blowin' debris and some leaves off of greens Repaint the yard markers so they can be seen Finally promoted, I was mowin' all the tees But you already know it, don't intervene Fun fact, we added some plastic baskets The tee mower's now a fringe mower, fantastic The fringes I would taper, I was makin' 'em look perfect Reminiscin' back to those days, they were worth it Fore! Agh, God
