Z popielnika na Wojtusia iskiereczka mruga. Chodz opowiem ci bajeczke. Bajka bedzie dluga. Byla sobie raz krolewna, pokochala grajka, krol wyprawil im wesele i skonczona bajka. Byla sobie Baba Jaga, miala chatke z ciasta, a w tej chatce same dziwy, cyt! iskierka zgasla. Patrzy Wojtus, patrzy, duma, lza zaszly oczeta, czemu zes mnie oszukala? Wojtus zapamieta. Juz ci nigdy nie uwierze iskiereczko mala. Najpierw blysniesz, potem zgasniesz, ot i bajka cala. Zyli wsrod morz, nie znali burz, rzecz najzupelniej pewna. Kochal sie krol, kochal sie paz, kochali sie w krolewnie. I ona tez kochala ich, kochali sie wzajemnie. Lecz stala sie pewnego dnia rzecz straszna nieslychanie, krola zjadl pies, pazia zjadl kot, krolewne myszka zjadla. A spark from the fire promises a young boy to listen to long fairytales. The first story is about a princess in love with a joker, and a king who puts on a wedding for them. The next tale tells of a witch who lives in an enchanting house of pastry. In the end, the stories last as long as the spark’s life – and the second one has finished abruptly, saddening the boy greatly. So, to cheer him up, his mother tells a third, longer story about a king, a jack and a princess who are in love with one another. Tragedy befalls all three. The king is eaten by a dog, the jack by a cat and the princess by a mouse. Not to worry, explains the mother, since the king was made of sugar, the jack of pastry and the princess of marzipan.
