About The Weekend

"The Weekend" is a song recorded by American singer SZA for her debut studio album, Ctrl (2017). Written by SZA and its producer ThankGod4Cody, the song samples "Set the Mood (Prelude)" from the 2006 album FutureSex/LoveSounds, written by Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, and Danja, who also received writing credits for "The Weekend". A contemporary R&B and neo soul record, "The Weekend" uses a synth-line, hi-hats, drums, a high-pitched vocal sample and clocking key thumps. Its theme is polyamory; SZA sings about sharing a lover with other women from the perspective of one who only see her partner at weekends. The aforementioned subject caused debate across the social media, calling attention from music critics, some of whom questioned SZA's attitude for singing about sharing her sexual partner so comfortably, calling it a "side-chick anthem". Other reviewers considered it an expression of positive female sexuality. The song was included in several lists of best songs of 2017 and received a Grammy nomination at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. Prior to its official release, the song debuted on some Billboard charts; this unexpected popularity prompted RCA Records to release it on September 26, 2017, as the album's second radio single. The song reached number 29 on Billboard Hot 100, becoming SZA's first and highest chart position with a solo song. It also topped the Hot R&B Songs chart and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on March 1, 2018.

You say you got a girl
Then how you want me?
How you want me when you got a girl?
The feelin' is wreckless
Of knowin' it's selfish
Knowin' I'm desperate
Gettin' all in your love
Fallin' all over love, like
Do it 'til it hurts less
Hanging out the back, all up in your lap
Like is you comin' home?
Is you out with her?
I don't care long as you're here by
10:30, no later than
Drop them drawers, give me what I want

My man is my man is your man
Heard it's her man too
My man is my man is your man
Heard that's her man
Tuesday and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
I just keep him satisfied through the weekend
You're like nine to five, I'm the weekend
Make him lose his mind every weekend
You take Wednesday, Thursday
Then just send him my way
Think I got it covered for the weekend

Said I'd leave, I wasn't ready yet
I wish me and her hadn't already met
I been tryna get my mind clear but
When you standing naked in the mirror, f*ck
You got a body to make anybody forgive
Yeah, and I really got nothing to go off
But the feels, but the feels, but the feelings
Clothes off
God knows a nigga doing so wrong
Whatever me and her had is so gone
I ain't really had a friend in so long
When she leaves, you come
When she leaves, you come through
When she leaves, you come
When you cum, I cum too
Then I come to my senses
But I don't want to end this
Tell me if you're free sometime this weekend

She been working nights on the weekend
Always picking fights on the weekend (weekend)
Beefin' every Friday
Then I think about it
She might have somebody on the weekends, yeah
