Eiffel Tower, wintry morning
A haze of sunlight, shining in our eyes
The tower frames the lovely  lady
Wrapped in velvet, beauty realized

We walk the streets, the narrow alleys.
The nooks and crannies, along the boulevards
Snowflakes fall in peaceful graveyards.
The fallen heroes with tombstones standing guard

There are no flowers, no summer sandals.
There's only winter in the City of Light
It is a place deep in its season.

She eats her crepe, we drink our coffee
It holds the chill out, keeps us warm and dry
We speak with care their lovely language
But scratch our heads when they reply

We stroll the banks, the arrondissements
From Picasso to Cézanne
We act like natives, but they know better
They let the masquerade carry on

Down a dusty lane, a tiny circus
Performed by gypsies, a family fare
The wire act so breathtaking
Only three feet in the air

A girl revolves around the trapeze
Her little kitten matching her every line
There is no fanfare, no drinks no candy
Only fascination caught in time
