A stream, infinite glow

Bioluminescent flickers, a dark beyond time
A flicker of gold, striations of light
Bright over the evergreens
A shifting backdrop beyond mountains
Butterfly wing beats
We are disconnected from what it takes for us to breathe
I breathe out with the forest
Tree rings, solidified fragments of time
Circles, years, decades, centuries
We have changed shape, changed life
And yet the lights stay the same
Solar flare, hydrogen flicker
Pale blue fades to black
Lingering moons, a shimmer of silver
Transfixed in forms scattered across ice
Footprints mar a desert of snow
Imprints from the passing of life
Wings catch prevailing winds
All of time stands still
Everything is still
Yet the lights keep moving

Silent halo, please forgive us
We know we are not beyond reproach
Suspended and barely holding on
A rapture is waiting for us all

Lights cast a shadow
Slender pillars of night
Hiding in the penumbra of dreams
I can see it all
Patterns on the inside of eyelids
The closed eyes of a dreamer
Stuck outside of time
I watch as we lose our grip on our future
Our control is lost, the world escaping
We do not have time left
Soon we become ghosts wandering lost
And the lights will continue to shift
To us the stars appear as ghosts
But what are we to stars?
Everything is still
And the lights keep moving
