Richard Alden

Richard Alden served, until November 2015, as chief executive officer of Wananchi Group, a fast-growing communications operator, providing DTH, cable internet and business services in East Africa. Previously he was president of TOA Technologies Europe and the chief executive officer of ONO, the largest cable television operator in Spain. He joined ONO prior to its launch in early 1998 and helped oversee the development of the business from inception to a company now serving over 1.9 million customers taking some 3.5 million services. Alden has worked in the cable industry for over 17 years, previously in the United Kingdom and Canada with Le Groupe Videotron. He is a UK Chartered Accountant. Alden was charged with murder after the death of Kenyan national, Grace Wangechi Kinyanjui on 4 June 2016 in Nairobi's affluent Karen district. He has plead not guilty to the charges.Richard Alden was acquitted of all charges by the Kenyan Courts on 30 October 2017. Independent Ballistics evidence prove that the shooting had been a tragic, but self inflicted accident, caused by family friend, Grace Kinyanjui, mishandling a Glock pistol during a house move, causing a single round to fire hit the floor and ricochet off the floor. Alden had rushed her to hospital but it was not possible to save her. The Sunday Times in the United Kingdom, 3 December 2017, reported the trial outcome.
