Alexandra Higgins is a folk / indie / singer/songwriter from North Carolina. Alexandra always loved singing—in theater productions or in chorus at school, having been selected for All-State Chorus in her freshman year in high school. She sang the National Anthem several times for local minor league baseball teams, the Durham Bulls and Carolina Mudcats, as well as for USA Baseball college championship games. She dabbled in piano and a bit of violin during school, but it was always her voice that stood out. In college at Appalachian State University, she took an Appalachian Music and a Jazz course (winning an impromptu scat contest with her professor!), both of which informed her future study of music. She taught herself the ukulele, and then a mandolin, to entertain her friends, when her mom sent her random instruments on a whim. One was a LuteKulele, which is fun at Renaissance fairs. She spent several summers and years volunteering for a music therapy group which her little brother Andrew, who has Down syndrome and autism, attended. She always enjoying singing and dressing up in character to entertain that crew. She graduated with a degree in Creative Writing, and then picked up guitar from some awesome Keith Urban lessons, continued helping with music therapy, performing a bit at coffee houses, and then began studying music and songwriting.
