Rachel Agatha Keen (born 24 October 1997) known professionally as Raye (stylised in all caps), is an English singer and songwriter. Before rising to prominence as a solo artist, Raye was known for her involvement for songwriting and producing for other artists including Beyoncé, Little Mix, Rihanna, David Guetta, John Legend, and Ellie Goulding. In 2019, she was awarded a BMI Award, for her groundbreaking artistry, creative vision and impact on the future of music.Raye rose to prominence after being featured on the commercially successful singles "By Your Side", "You Don't Know Me", "Secrets" and "Bed". In 2021, Raye's departure from Polydor Records, gained some media attention in the UK and later became an independent artist. Her breakthrough as a solo artist came after her single "Escapism" went viral on TikTok. It became her first single to top the UK Singles Chart, and also reached the top ten in over twenty two countries and became her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100. To date, she has amassed over eighteen chart entries on the UK Singles Chart, including five top ten hits. In 2023, she released her debut studio album My 21st Century Blues, to universal critical acclaim; earning a nomination for "Best Independent Album" at the AIM Independent Music Awards, and "Album of the Year" for the 2023 Mercury Prize. In 2023, she became one of the first acts to win a Brits Billion Award and has received a Ivor Novello Award, a Global Award, as well as being nominated for four Brit Awards, a BET Award, three Popjustice £20 Music Prize, three Ivor Novello Awards, four Global Awards, three AIM Independent Music Awards, and a Mercury Prize.
