PROLOGUE FOR “THE DARKNESS IS WAITING”
“No, please, take me! Leave her alone. Izzy, I’m coming for you.” As I struggle to free myself from the monster’s grip, I see them taking her, my poor little sister. Oh god, what were they going to do with her? Where the hell were my parents? I bite my captor on the arm. These bitches may not bleed, but I knew they could still feel pain. Sure enough, the beast let go and I scrambled away from him. Frantically, I look around for a weapon. Water, I think, where is the blasted holy water? Then, I spot it, a crystalline vial, sitting atop the high shelf; could I make it; was there enough time? The vampire from whom I had broken away lunged at me. I dodged his outstretched hand and swiveled around at a cry of pain. Oh my god, they’ve hurt her; the bastards have hurt my little sister. But, no, she had not made the sound, her captor had. She was on the floor, writhing in agony. Guess Isabella found the second vial of holy water, I think, as I search to see where she has gone. I se her slim figure, encased in a pink nightgown, running out of the room… downstairs. Oh no, I think, there are more of these damned creatures downstairs. As I try to follow her, I feel a clawed hand grab me from behind and pull me down. For a split second, I see one of them come up the stairs with Izzy in his arms, then my head hits the floor, and everything goes black. I jolt awake. That damn dream again. Although, if it has really happened, can it be called a dream? Yes, that horrible night; the night my whole family was slaughtered by vampires. All the memories of that night come flooding back. Finding my parents, drained of blood, on the stairway; finding the note scrawled in blood on the wall,
You cannot escape us. Death will follow you wherever you go.
finding the piece of pink cloth. I had vowed that night never to forget, never to stop searching for the bastards who killed my parents and kidnapped my sister. Never.
