Tremaine Aldon Neverson, (born November 28, 1984), in Petersburg, Virginia, better known by his stage name Trey Songz, is an American contemporary R&B singer and songwriter. Inspired musically by R&B artists from the 1960s and 1970s such as Smokey Robinson and Aretha Franklin as well as contemporary artists such as Luther Vandross and R. Kelly, the young star debuted in 2005. His debut album Gotta Make It, was released by Atlantic Records in 2005. He has a cameo apperance in Ne-Yo's new video Miss Independent and in Young Jeezy's video Vacation.

Early life
Trey Songz loved hip-hop while growing up, the only R&B he could get into was R. Kelly. This pushed him to drop rap and start singing. Songz did just that, and after winning numerous talent shows in Petersburg, VA, the 15-year-old singer met Katherine, who had worked behind the scenes with such artists as Patti LaBelle, SWV, and B2K. Katherine encouraged Trey to finish high school first, and then they could talk about a possible music career. Soon, the singer was appearing on Kevin Lyttle's debut album and Trick Daddy's Thug Matrimony as a sideman, as well as striking out on his own with "About the Game," a solo cut from the Coach Carter soundtrack.[1

I Gotta Make It
Trey Songz went into the studio to work on his debut album called I Gotta Make It. The album was released on July 26, 2005 and it debuted at #20 on the Billboard 200. His debut single, "Gotta Make It" only peaked at #87 on the Billboard Hot 100. The second single peaked at #67 on the Billboard Hot 100.


Trey Day
After his debut album he went and started recording his second album title Trey Day. The album's lead single, "Wonder Woman", didn't really earn much success on the charts and the album was pushed back. The second single, "Can't Help but Wait" peaked at #14 becoming his highest debut single. The album was was released on October 2, 2007 and it debuted at #11 on the Billboard 200 and it debuted at #2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. The third single of the album was "Last Time" and the song peaked at #69 on the Billboard Hot 100.
