About Should I Go

"Should I Go" is a song by American recording artist Brandy Norwood from her fourth studio album, Afrodisiac (2004). It was written by Walter Millsap III, his collaborative partner Candice Nelson, and mentor Timbaland, while production was helmed by the latter. "Should I Go" is built on percussive beats, syncopated handclaps and a piano riff that samples British alternative rock band Coldplay's song "Clocks", written by Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion, and Chris Martin for their second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002). Lyrically, Norwood as the protagonist openly talks about contemplating stepping away from the music business, admitting that she is trying to figure out where she fits in today.

I'm standing on the edge of the industry
Wondering if it's all that important to me
To get my records back out there on the streets
It ain't like I'm hurting or anything
I'm to the point right now where money ain't an issue
I can roll where I want to, do what I want to do
Tempted to leave it in my rear-view
Because this game ain't what I'm used to

[Chorus]
Should I go?
Should I stay?
I'm in control either way
Should I go?
Should I stay?
I'm in control either way
Should I go?
Should I stay?
I'm in control either way
Should I go?
Should I stay?
I'm in control either way

It used to be a few artists at a time
Now, even the veterans wait in line
Pre-mature release of these albums online
Making it hard for real entertainers to shine
If you manage to defeat all these odds against you
Keep doing your thing 'cause I'm not mad at you
Just trying to figure out where I fit into
All of this now, or if I do

[Chorus]

[Verse 2]

[Chorus]

[Verse 3]
This industry was more like a different world
When it was just me, Monica, and Babygirl
Aaliyah, I never got to tell you how much you meant
I wish you and me both was sitting here working with Tim
Just to be in the presence of people that you affected on a personal level
Just makes me stop for a second (pause & exhale)
You were such a blessing
You only answered one of my questions

[Chorus]

[Bridge]
Well, I gave it some time
And I made up my mind
Move over, this is my time
Be, Rocka's back on the grind

[Chorus]

Brandy

Brandy (from brandywine, derived from Dutch brandewijn—"burnt wine") is a spirit produced by distilling wine. Brandy generally contains 35–60% alcohol by volume (70–120 US proof) and is typically taken as an after-dinner drink. Some brandies are aged in wooden casks, while some are simply coloured with caramel colouring to imitate the effect of such aging (and some brandies are produced using a combination of both aging and colouring). more »
