Marley's Ghost

Jacob Marley is a fictional character in Charles Dickens's 1843 novella A Christmas Carol, a former business partner of the miser Ebenezer Scrooge, who has been dead for seven years. On Christmas Eve, Scrooge is visited at home by Marley's ghost, who wanders the Earth entwined by heavy chains and money boxes forged during a lifetime of greed and selfishness. By the rivers of Babylon,
Where he sat down,
And there he went
For he remembered Zion.
For the wicked carry us away.
Captivity requireth from us a song.
How can we sing King Alpha's song
In a strange land?
So let the words of our mouth
And the meditations of our hearts
Be acceptable in thy sight over I.
