Do you want to be an angel
Do you want to be a star
Do you want to play some magic on my guitar?
Do you want to be a poet
Do you want to be my string?
You could be anything
Do you want to be the lover of another, undercover?
You could even be the man on the moon

Do you want to be the player
Do you want to be the string?
Let me tell you something
It just don`t mean a thing
You see, it really doesn't matter
When you`re buried in disguise
By the dark glass on your eyes
Though your flesh has crystallized
Still you turn me on
Still you turn me on
Hmm, you turn me on

Do you want to be the pillow where I lay my head
Do you want to be the feathers lying in my bed?
Do you want to be a color cover magazine
Create a scene
Every day a little sadder
A little madder?
Someone get me a ladder

Do you want to be the singer
Do you want to be the song?
Let me tell you something
You just couldn't be more wrong
You see, I really have to tell you
That it all gets so intense
From my experience
It just doesn't seem to make sense
Still you turn me on
Hmm, you turn me on, oh yeah
Hmm, you turn me on

9 facts about this song

Song Origins
"Still... You Turn Me On" is a song by the British progressive rock power trio known as Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP). Belonging to their 1973 album, 'Brain Salad Surgery', it highlights the creative genius of this group.
Lead Artist
Greg Lake is the lead vocalist and also the songwriter of "Still... You Turn Me On". He was known for his powerful, moving vocals and his skills as a guitarist.
Creation Period
The song was recorded and released during the peak of ELP's popularity in the 1970s. Despite its contrast to the band's more progressive rock pieces, it became quite a hit among fans.
Failed Single Release
Strangely, despite its popularity, the song was never officially released as a single. This is attributed to the fact that it would have forced ELP to promote the song on Top of the Pops, something that clashed with their typical audience and style.
Acoustic Style
Unlike ELP's typical work, which was heavily electronic-focused due to Keith Emerson's keyboard, "Still... You Turn Me On" is primarily an acoustic piece. The sound is marked by its rich guitar work and Lake's distinctive voice.
Lyric Interpretation
The lyrics are very evocative and poetic, filled with natural imagery. Although its meaning is open to interpretation, many interpret it as a love song given the passionate language used.
Successful Spin-off
A version of "Still... You Turn Me On" was performed by Greg Lake alone at the California Jam Festival in 1974, with Keith Emerson and Carl Palmer joining him on stage for the remainder of the performance.
Music Video
A music video was also produced for the song, featuring Greg Lake playing an acoustic guitar in various natural settings, again setting this piece apart from ELP's usual heavy-synth performances.
Cover Versions
Beyond its initial iteration, "Still... You Turn Me On" has been covered by various artists across different genres, a testament to its timeless appeal and versatility.
