Kharagpur (KGP) pronunciation (Bengali: খড়্গপুর) is an industrial town in India. It is located in the Midnapore West district of the state of West Bengal. Features as BNR or Bengal Nagpur Railway), Midnapore (going north) and Balasore of Orissa state (heading southwards along the coast of the Bay of Bengal).
Kharagpur was chosen as the location of the first campus of the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
