Aoife

Aoife (IPA: [ˈiːfʲə]) (pronounced EE-feh, or EE-fah, depending on where in Ireland) is an Irish female given name. The difference in pronunciation comes from the varied dialects of Ireland, the more anglicized Irish spoken in the East, and the stronger dialect in the West and the Gaeltacht. It is commonly regarded as an Irish language equivalent of the female given name Eve or Eva. However this is incorrect as the names have very different origins. Suggestions that "Aoife" means "radiant beauty" or is derived from the Irish word "aoibheann" (sweet) are likewise not supported by any philological evidence.
